Without Ice Cream, There Would Be Chaos – La Jolla Library Workshop

Why does your Popsicle melt on a hot day? Why does the bathroom mirror fog up after a long shower? Why does rain turn to hail when it’s cold outside? Through culinary examples of phase changes, students will explore phase changes and how they occur on a molecular level. BioEASI has adopted the Young Chefs program to be taught at a La Jolla Library workshop. BioEASI volunteers will be teaching the “Without Ice Cream, There Would Be Chaos” lesson to install scientific principles about phase changes with cooking! Interested in attending? RSVP here. This workshop takes place Saturday, September 29th 3-5pm at the La Jolla Library.

The aim is to:

  1. Engage underserved students with scientific concepts and methods across the physical and life sciences.
  2. Empower underserved students with tangible culinary skills and knowledge to foster healthy relationships with food.
  3. Develop science-cooking curriculum and teaching resources for educators to use in communities across the globe.

Big thanks to Vayu Maini Rekdal and Emily Pence who started Young Chefs 2011!
